Thompkins County Center for History and Culture

New Museum

Pathfinder provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering for the renovation of the former Tompkins Trust Company on The Commons to house interpretive exhibits from local arts and cultures organizations. The building also includes a visitor information center, office areas, the Ithaca/Tompkins County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Wharton Studio Museum, Dorothy Cotton Institute, the Christopherson Center and The Community Arts Partnership.

The $3.7 million project included roughly 10,800 sq. ft. of main floor lobby, exhibits, visitor’s center, program spaces, archives, services and staff offices. It also included approximately 4,700 sq. ft. of additional staff and storage space renovations on the second and third floors and 4,100 sq. ft. of renovations in the basement. Pathfinder’s design services included converting 2,700 sq. ft. of existing basement storage and office space to climate controlled archives for the historical collections.
