Pathfinder Project Receives Worldwide Recognition

ave Meyer, Jaimee Wilson and Al Rodgers accepted the ASHRAE Technology Award for our Koffman Southern Tier Incubator project. Only six of these prestigious awards were given worldwide. The award was presented at the ASHRAE Winter Conference in Atlanta.

The ASHRAE Technology Award recognizes outstanding achievements by ASHRAE members who have successfully applied innovative building designs. Their designs incorporate ASHRAE standards for effective energy management and indoor air quality and serve to communicate innovative systems design.

Incubator Project Wins Prestigious ASHRAE Technology Award

Pathfinder Engineers & Architects has been selected by American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) for a first place 2019 Technology Award for its design of the Koffman Southern Tier Incubator, Binghamton, NY. Pathfinder provided high-performance mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering and enhanced commissioning for the building.  

The ASHRAE Technology Awards recognize outstanding achievements by members worldwide who have successfully applied innovative building design in the areas of occupant comfort, indoor air quality (IAQ) and energy conservation. These designs incorporate ASHRAE standards for effective energy management and IAQ.

Pathfinder Part of NYSERDA GSHP Rebate Program

Pathfinder is now a participating contractor for NYSERDA's Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) Rebate Program. We can now submit rebate applications to NYSERDA on behalf of our clients.

GSHP systems transfer thermal energy between the ground and a building to heat and cool without any harmful emissions or additional fuel. NYSERDA is making $15 million available for the installation of this renewable energy technology. Rebates are:

  • Small systems: $1,500 per ton of cooling capacity for systems 10 tons or less of cooling capacity
  • Large systems: $1,200 per ton of cooling capacity for systems over 10 tons of cooling capacity

David Meyer Presentation at Passive House Conference

Pathfinder Partner David Meyer was part of a presentation team at the recent Passive House Institute US conference in Boston, speaking about the Nuthatch Hollow research station at Binghamton University. The project is a 3,000 sq. ft. lab and multipurpose building located on a 75-acre nature preserve owned and used by the University. The project is pursuing both Living Building Challenge full certification and Passive House.
